Rental of Wheelchair Accessible Vans

If the University is providing or arranging for transportation for students generally, we are obligated to provide the same service for students with disabilities. The University motor pool does not currently maintain an accessible van in its fleet. The PaTS paratransit vehicles are needed for local service and are not well suited to "long-haul" travel.

To assist you in facilitating such accommodations, the Office of Compliance, Student Policy, and Judicial Affairs has collected information on enterprises which rent accessible vans. The rented vehicle should be used to transport other students as well as the student with a disability. It is also advisable that a staff person leading a trip (and driving the vehicle) review any lease contract with the Office of Insurance and Risk Management prior to signing.

All AVA vans are equipped with driver and passenger side airbags, anti-lock braking systems, and front wheel drives. Vans are equipped to transport wheelchairs in either the midsection or the front passenger side. Equipment such as scooters can be easily transported and secured. Wheelchair securemement system is a four-point Manuel tie-down system.

Pricing is as follows:

$96.00 per day with 100 free miles a day (for 1 day's or 2 days' rental)
$89.00 per day with 100 free miles a day (for 3 to 6 days' rental)
$560.00 per week with 700 free miles (for weekly rentals)
$1,895.00 per month with 2,000 free miles (for monthly rentals).

Mileage over the alloted amount is charged at a rate of .25 per mile.

Month to month rental at the rate of $1,595 per month, based on an assumption that the vehicle will be used for a period of at least three months.

One week's notice is required for delivery - vans are delivered and picked up. University POs are accepted.
